Nurse Practitioner Careers

Nurse practitioners have a 40-year long history of providing health-care services to all sorts of patients. The need for nurse practitioners came about during the 1960’s in response to a shortage of physicians in the United States. Nurse practitioners promote the overall wellness and health of their patients by providing a comprehensive approach to health care.

Nurse practitioners go through intensive training so they can be qualified to meet all their patients’ needs. These include diagnosing and treating acute and chronic problems, doing complete physical examinations, interpreting X-rays and lab results, prescribing medication and other therapy, providing counseling and health teaching to promote healthy lifestyle choices, and referring patients to other health care specialists.
